My paintings begin with moments of observation — often something briefly encountered and photographed: a figure, a particular quality of light, or the relationship between a person and the place around them.

Working from these photographs in the studio allows me to return to moments that might otherwise pass unnoticed, exploring atmosphere, solitude and our relationship with the world we inhabit.
