Varenna

We visited the beautiful village of Varenna back in 2018 to attend a wedding. I painted this scene from a photograph I took on that visit, over looking the Lake from Varenna. I loved how the hillside had those beautiful blue-purple haze which stood out against the terracotta rooftops.

This painting took approximately 5 months to complete using Windsor Newton water soluble oil paints and working in layers to build up the text of the foilage and capture the gradient of the water.
